Our Model

The Challenge: Haiti’s Educational Crisis

Without collaborative solutions and a shared responsibility for student success, too many children fall through the cracks of the system.

Despite efforts to improve access to education, Haiti’s schools continue to underperform due to a complex mix of poor teaching quality, weak governance, and insufficient support structures. Haiti’s education system is fragmented, characterized by competition rather than collaboration, and lacks the data-driven mechanisms needed to support teachers, administrators, and students effectively. As a result, many students are unable to complete their fundamental education with the skills they need to thrive.

Our Response: Co-Creating Solutions That Scale

Cross-Network Incubation

We believe that when diverse stakeholders—schools, communities, researchers, policymakers, and international partners—come together to co-create solutions, we can address the most pressing challenges in Haiti’s education system. By scaling these solutions across networks and advocating for their adoption at the policy level, we accelerate the progress toward a brighter future for Haiti’s students.

Three Strategic Levers

Our focus is on three bold strategies to drive lasting impact. Through these levers, we address both immediate needs and long-term goals to ensure the sustainability and impact of our work.

Quality Teaching and Learning

  • Relevant Materials: Create context-appropriate, real-world learning materials in students’ mother tongue for both classroom and distance learning.
  • Effective Instruction: Develop engaging, active teaching methods with professional development that fosters a positive learning environment and growth mindset.
  • Student Support: Implement standardized assessments and timely interventions for struggling students, including afterschool and summer programs.

Effective and Transparent Governance

  • Data-Driven Practice: Build robust school information systems and a data-sharing culture for informed decision-making.
  • School Management: Develop leadership and accountability through professional development and model policies for effective school management.
  • School Networks: Strengthen school networks with solutions for resource sharing, staff retention, and sustainable business models.

Scaling Successful Models

  • Knowledge Management: Establish a system for continuous learning, evaluation, and knowledge sharing across the education sector.
  • Capacity Building: Expand proven approaches through peer learning and technical assistance to reach more schools and communities.
  • Advocacy: Launch focused campaigns to influence policy and secure support for scaling our model nationwide.
